EXCURSIONS WITH THE FAMILY

If you don’t want to go skiing, you can still experience winter fun in Chiemgau.

Enjoy the landscape and visit numerous winter family hotspots.

Schafwaschener Bucht

Ice age on the Schafwaschen Bay

Directly below the elevated climatic health resort of Rimsting lies the natural bay of the Chiemsee, the Schafwaschener Winkl.

In summer, the large bathing area invites you to swim and in winter, the lake in the bay freezes particularly quickly, leaving behind a winter paradise of ice. One look through the mirror ice and the lake’s inhabitants can be seen almost to the bottom.

As soon as the ice is safe to walk on, curlers, ice skaters and walkers can be found on the frozen surface. Particularly hard-boiled people treat themselves to an ice bath.

Curling tournaments are always held in January, where amateur curlers can also compete with the champions. Sometimes 30 lanes are used, as the crowds are often huge. They start at sunrise and as soon as the sun goes down again, the ice has had its well-deserved rest.

Snowtubing

Snowtubing – winter fun for the whole family and a special alternative to tobogganing.

Snowtubing is all about having fun. First you are comfortably pulled up the mountain on a snowtubing lift, before you hurtle 350 – 400 meters down the mountain on the air-filled tire, the “tube”. A little tip: don’t waste your energy steering, as the tire follows its own will!

Directions: Country road towards Bernau / direction Grassau – Marquartstein / direction Reiz im Winkl / direction Benzeck ski lifts

Costs: Benzeck parking lot free of charge (as of 2021)

One-way ticket: 3,- €

Nationalpark

The national park in Ramsau is located at the foot of the Watzmann mountain in Berchtesgadener Land. The small village of Ramsau is not only the only Alpine National Park in Germany, but is also considered the first mountaineering village in Germany and stands for ecological and sustainable tourism. Nature travelers and enthusiasts enjoy the breathtakingly untouched nature. The national park is a special highlight for young and old, especially during the cold season. Due to the shortage of food in the wild, there are almost 100 red deer, cows, stags and calves in the park. This gives you the opportunity to watch the wild animals being fed at close quarters. Two viewing platforms and a tower around eleven meters high offer a perfect view. In spring, the wild animals return to the wild.

If you don’t just want to enjoy the romantic nature on a walk, you can also take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the national park.
